Similarly, during Jonas’s escape, he was all alone; there was no one who could help him at that point of time. He only had a young companion, whom he had to take care of. Jonas also had to guess his way to Elsewhere as no one ever told him the directions to Elsewhere. Being enclosed in the community for twelve years, the outside world is almost new to Jonas. Everything was so unfamiliar and harsh. He had to follow his instincts and get to Elsewhere, just like the poor guy in the picture. ):
The picture is also grey in colour, showing that how sad and dull it is to be all alone and lost. It is as though life has no colour in it. This once again connects us back to The Giver. Jonas’s escape was a tough and torturous journey for him. At that moment, life was colourless. It had no joy or happiness in it, just pain and sadness and loneliness.

This picture shows a family which celebrates love and happiness. This is what Jonas finally found after his exhausting journey. LOVE! A joyful and loving community unlike the utopian community which was unfeeling*. It makes his suffering worthwhile; A few days of suffering for everlasting love.
*the unfeeling community as though their hearts are made of stone
Love is like a ray of light which gives us courage in times of darkness. Jonas was determined to find this love and thus, he had the courage to persevere on during tough times and he succeeded in getting what he long for.

THANK YOU! SMILE! (:
